Two families at a glance
| Material | General characteristics | Applications to discuss |
|---|---|---|
| HDPE | More linear polymer structure; commonly selected for relatively rigid products. | Bottles, containers, pipes and certain film grades. |
| LDPE | More branched polymer structure; flexibility is a common feature. | Flexible film and packaging; confirm the intended process for each grade. |
Match the process before comparing grades
Extrusion, blow moulding and injection moulding have different material requirements. A resin supplied for one process should not be assumed suitable for another. Describe the final product and process together when making an enquiry.
Translate an application into a specification
| Application | Information to include |
|---|---|
| Packaging film | Film thickness, process, required appearance and sealing requirements. |
| Rigid container | Volume, shape, process and performance requirements. |
| Pipe or technical part | Service conditions, dimensions and required grade documentation. |
An application name is not an approval
Food-contact packaging, drinking-water pipes and other specific uses require relevant grade documentation and product validation. General descriptions of polyethylene do not establish that an offered grade meets a particular application requirement.
What to send with your enquiry
- Resin family and current grade, if available.
- Final product, processing method and key requirements.
- Planned quantity, delivery destination and timing.
- Whether alternatives may be evaluated through trials.
